For once there is something I agree with Gordon Brown over - the fact that the Union between England and Scotland is under pressure.
2007 is the tricentenary of the Act of Union, and it is something to be celebrated, not to mark the break-up of the United Kingdom. Gordon Brown recognises this (and also that he is likely to lose many Labour seats north of the border in the Scottish Elections in May).
But he is part of the government that has systematically abused and decimated our Constitution. It is Labour that has created this mess, and now he is hoping to solve it.
Our Constitutional has evolved over centuries and Labour have "reformed" (and I use the word loosely) it without adequate consideration of the consequences.
I support the Union, and although I am opposed to devolution I recognise it is here to stay. I believe that there are better ways to solve the democratic deficit south of the border than to break up the Union.
